Educators glimpse classrooms of the future at Teaching and Learning with Vision
9th December 2011
Educators from across Australia recently came together on the Gold Coast to discuss, debate and challenge each other on the use of video conferencing, virtual reality, video games and all things digital. From 2-4 November 2011, Broadreach was delighted to host the Teaching and Learning with Vision (TLV11) conference to share ideas and transform teaching and learning opportunities through the use of video technologies. Cisco was a key sponsor for the event, which was also sponsored by Blink Mobile and Vaddio.
Delegates represented over 50 educational institutions from around Australia, including schools, universities, colleges and TAFEs. As well as presentations from internationally recognised keynote speakers, who covered topics aimed at bringing classrooms into the future, delegates participated in interactive workshops, attended networking activities and had the opportunity to speak to exhibitors displaying the latest learning technologies, including TTGroup Communications, my.TAFE Queensland, Eduss Learning, Transition Systems, Steelcase, Leading Digital, Australian Flexible Learning Framework and eLearning eXperts.
Practical demonstrations of applying video and related technologies included an application for smart mobile devices, a location based mobile adventure, an interactive scavenger hunt using QR codes and personal QR coded name badges, providing great networking opportunities.
Feedback from delegates indicated a high level of satisfaction, with 79% indicating they would recommend the conference to colleagues. Particularly noted was the quality of presentations, conducted by such internationally recognised educators as Professor Stephen Heppell, Professor Gilly Salmon and the Canadian brothers Alec and George Couros. Comments included:
“Very impressive set of speakers.”
“Ensuring a balance of theoretical and practical is paramount. Well done on this year’s speakers!”
The conference enjoyed good social media attention, with approximately 2,000 tweets and a trending topic position in the education space for the two days.Dozens of educators not attending the conference participated in robust debate via twitter, with many stating that they would definitely be attending next year. Interest and discussion started several days before the conference and continued for several weeks after the conference. The event also received coverage inEducation Technology Solutions (the conference media partner), Education Services Australia andFlex-e News (Australian Flexible Learning Framework).
